History of Grama Panchayat
📜 History of Morayur
Morayur Grama Panchayat is blessed with abundant natural beauty. The history of Morayur Panchayat is closely linked with the Zamorin (Samuthiri) King of Calicut. Morayur was the seat of Thinayinchery Elayathu, who was a prominent minister to the Zamorin. The person holding the position of Karanavar in the ancient landlord family of Mongandambulath in Morayur came to be known as Thinayinchery Elayathu.
Governance & Lineage
From ancient times, the Kodithodika family has been a prominent Muslim family in Morayur. During British rule, influential people were appointed as the Amsham Adhikari (village head). This administrative position remained with the family until the 1961 village reorganization. Kodithodika Valya Ahammadkutty Haji was the first Adhikari, and his descendant K. Ahammad (Bappu) later served as the Panchayat President.
Education & Service
Kodithodika Veeran Haji spearheaded the area’s educational growth, founding the Morayur Veeran Haji Memorial High School (upgraded to UP in 1942, High School in 1946). Donating much of his wealth, he established the Dharmaparipalana Sangham and opened a Sathram (inn) to provide free food for students and travelers.
Freedom Movement
During the 1921 anti-British movement, Morayur gained prominence following a direct clash with British troops at Chembalam Hill. Local freedom fighters famously demolished the culvert bridge at Valanchery to hinder the movement of British military vehicles (Idivandi).
